Millennium, The

Revelation 20's thousand years belongs to an apocalyptic book written to first-century churches and must be interpreted with Revelation's own symbols, audience, time statements, and Old Testament imagery. The passage describes the vindication and reign of faithful witnesses and the restraint/defeat of Satan within the book's larger judgment story. It must not be isolated from Revelation's governing framework or used to construct an earthly political kingdom contrary to Christ's present reign.
