Lord, The A title for God in both the OT and the NT. It is generally written in the Bible in small capital letters. The "Lord" translates the Hebrew term "Yahweh" or "Jehovah," and is used to describe the self-existent nature of God, who says of Himself, "I am that I am" (Exo 3:14; cf. 6:3). Later Jews regarded the name too holy to be spoken. The title is used in the NT to refer to Jesus Christ and reflects His Deity and His absolute authority.
