Faith Personal belief and trust in a person or an idea, such that loss will be inevitable if the object of faith proves untrustworthy. Christian faith in Jesus is therefore more than intellectual assent to beliefs; it is personal commitment to Jesus and to His teaching. Faith is regularly linked to repentance and to obedience to the commandments (cf. Jn 3:36; Rom 1:5; 16:26). Unwillingness to obey the commandments or neglect of duty may truly be considered as unfaithfulness. A tree may be judged by its fruit (see Jas 2:14-26).
