Question

False Doctrine Refuted — an original Scripture-based answer.

Did Christ die only for a preselected few?

Subject: Calvinism

Claim examined: Christ’s saving death was intended only for a preselected few, excluding everyone else from its provision.

Scriptural Answer

First Timothy 2 joins God’s desire for all to be saved with Christ’s ransom for all. Hebrews 2:9 says that Jesus tasted death for every man. These statements must not be narrowed by a system that excludes most people from the provision itself.

First John 2:2 extends Christ’s propitiation beyond the recipients of the letter to the whole world. Universal provision does not mean universal salvation: the gospel still calls for faith, repentance and obedience. Distinguish the reach of Christ’s sacrifice from a person’s response to it.

Biblical Connections — Scripture comparison
