Are the Father, Son and Holy Spirit simply one person using three names?
Subject: God, Christ and the Holy Spirit
Claim examined: The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are the same person, merely appearing under different names or modes.
Scriptural Answer
At Jesus’s baptism the Son is baptized, the Spirit descends, and the Father speaks from heaven. John 17 records the Son addressing the Father and speaking of glory with Him before the world was. These statements cannot be reduced to one person speaking only to Himself.
Scripture teaches one God, not competing gods. It also distinguishes Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Read both truths together without erasing either the divine unity or the personal distinctions the passages reveal.
