Must Christians keep the weekly Sabbath as a covenant obligation?
Subject: Covenants and the Sabbath
Claim examined: The weekly Sabbath of the Mosaic covenant is binding on Christians as their required day of worship.
Scriptural Answer
The Sabbath was a sign between God and Israel under the covenant given through Moses. Colossians 2:16–17 tells Christians not to be judged concerning holy days, new moons or sabbath days, describing these as a shadow with the body belonging to Christ.
Acts 20:7 records disciples assembling on the first day of the week to break bread; First Corinthians 16:1–2 gives first-day instructions for the collection. Sunday is not simply a renamed Jewish Sabbath. Identify each practice from its New Testament authority and distinguish the covenant under which it was commanded.
