Can later religious books change the apostolic gospel?
Subject: Mormon claims
Claim examined: A later religious book can supply new binding revelation that changes the gospel delivered by Christ’s apostles.
Scriptural Answer
Galatians 1 tests a message by the gospel already preached, even when an angel is claimed as its source. Jude 3 describes the faith delivered to the saints, and Second John 9 requires remaining in the doctrine of Christ.
A book is not inspired merely because its writer claims revelation. Study tools and historical writings may be useful, but they must remain subject to Scripture. A later message cannot authorize a different God, gospel or response to Christ.
